We met with our Galapagos group the evening before and we all left Quito early in the morning to catch our flight to the Galapagos Islands! We would land in Baltra around 1000am. The flight over was only a couple of hours, and everyone on the plane was excited to land. One thing I don't understand about during the landing is why people tend to clap; aren't we supposed to make a successful landing? Anyways, that's another post on its own.
Our first day was more of an orientation. We got on the boat, met the crew and our naturalist guide for the duration of the trip. We settled in to our rooms and had some safety drills in case of an emergency. The boat itself was about 20 meters long. We had our own cabin with washroom, and there was a bar area, kitchen area, and lounge area. The boat itself wasn't huge, but just big enough for everyone to enjoy themselves.
We had our first excursion in the afternoon and quickly saw some fantastic animals and creatures. We also had some time on the beach to relax or go snorkeling. It was a great start to what ended up being a busy, fun, and educational week!

A Frigate bird that landed on the railing of our boat while we were at sea. I had a 55-250mm zoom lens, but this guy was only about six feet away from me (this was usually the case for most of the pictures I took). |

Another set of an Iguana trail. |

The only Flamingo we saw. We went to another lake later in the week that was supposed to be the main area for Flamingos, but unfortunately there were none. |
