We arrived in Quito, Ecuador the previous day. Our flight to Galapagos Islands wasn't until Oct 02, and we purposely booked it that way so we could spend a day in Quito to explore the city. We went with a tour guide on a day trip to Otavalo, another city north of Quito. Otavalo is known for its market which is held every Saturday. They sell everything from clothing to jewellery to food. The drive was about three hours, but we stopped off at several points along the way. The drive alone was worth it as the sights were just shocking compared to the regular skyscrapers we see in Toronto.
