Day 08 - October 07, 2011

We sailed to Punta Suarez on Espanola Island today, visiting two parts of the Island. The main attraction in the morning were the albatross; they have the biggest wing span to body ratio of all birds. The wing span of the ones we saw were about 7-8ft wide. We were lucky to see them because they are only on this Island during a few months of the year, as well as their baby albatross! We also got the chance to see the Galapagos Hawk up close, which was one of the main birds I wanted to see. We then came across the area of the Blue Footed Boobies, where at least a dozen of them were hanging around with their babies. This was the first time we got to see them up close as the other days were quick sightings or far away.

In the afternoon, we visited a beach on the same Island, where tons of sea lions were hanging around. There were at least a hundred sea lions just laying there and sun tanning. The afternoon was more of a free time for us as we got the chance to walk along the beach and relax a bit.

What a life...

Galapagos Hawk eating a sea lion placenta. Yum.

One of a few species of snakes in the Galapagos.

Before lunch, we had the option of taking a dip in the water around the boat. These guys decided to jump off the top of our boat.

Baby sea lion who lost its mom. Walked around the whole time we were there trying to find her.
